Use the triangular shapes on the right to draw the tail. Make the shapes rounder and use some wavy lines for an organic feel. Then add a few more lines and shapes within the body for extra detail. Donât draw too many lines; just add a few for texture.
SHADING FOR DIMENSION After putting down value to represent the whaleâs color, add some shading to make your drawing look three-dimensional. To do this, add shadows to the underside of the whaleâs body, even where it is white. This should make it look like the light is hitting the whale on the top and that it has a shadow underneath. To get light and dark values, vary the pressure on your pencil. Be sure to shade lightly at first, and then gradually build up to the level of darkness that you like.
